“Teach us to number our days , that we may gain a heart of wisdom”

Psalm 90:12

We forget how precious and short life is, as if we have a guarantee for tomorrow. We believe we can extend our life if we remain healthy and we convince ourselves that we are in control of our future. We become overwhelmed by daily activities that we pass opportunities to spend real quality time with loved ones. We’re so consumed by our own wants and desires that we become neglectful to those who need us. Our days are numbered and it would be wise not to forget that.

How do you spell love….T-I-M-E. Love is not just something you feel, it’s something you do. Being present with my husband and little ones is what I strive for. I choose to live my days for my Lord and for my family. This is what brings me happiness, knowing that they are loved and cared for. I would lay my life down for my family, I would sacrifice everything for them.

As mothers we should remember that our children are people, they are not just another task. Our children are worth our lives and they need our time and guidance to become the people God created them to be. As the author Kelly Crawford puts it, “We don’t measure if we should have children by their convenience…or whether I can pursue my favorite pastime or career…We fall down on our knees with grave responsibility over these children.” Our children are the future and they depend on us. They grow so fast, we should never be too busy with other things to forget to spend quality time with them. If we’re not guiding our children other influences will such as, movies, music, video games, and social media.

This new generation is taught to love yourself first and that your happiness is priority.  I suppose I understand the concept and I don’t necessarily hate myself nor do I neglect to take care of myself. I still have my own hobbies and alone time but it is not my first priority and it is not what makes me the happiest.

Imagine a future where everyone in the world just lived for their own happiness? What if your happiness is at the expense of someone else’s? Who’s happiness is more important at that point? I believe we are all called to use our time to serve the Lord and others, the by-product being that we often find the most happiness and love for ourselves when we’re busy doing this.

So how are you managing your time? And if today was your last day how and to whom would it be distributed?
